COVID-19 Catch Up Premium

In June, a £1 billion fund for education was announced by the government.  Further guidance has now been released (https://www.gov.uk/guidance/coronavirus-covid-19-catch-up-premium) showing that the money is split between a catch-up premium and a national tutoring scheme.

The catch-up premium is funded on a per pupil basis at £80 per pupil. This will be based on the previous year’s census which means St Ebbe’s will be in receipt of £27,600 (345 x £80). To support schools to make the best use of this funding, the Education Endowment Foundation has published a support guide for schools with evidence-based approaches to catch up for all students. We have used this to guide our planning.

Spending

At St Ebbe’s, this money will be used to:

  • Support great teaching through focused training on the effective use of technology and developing pupil assessment and feedback so we can identify where children are in their learning and support them from their starting points.
  • Give targeted support through structured interventions this will include top up funding to access the subsidised national tutoring programme for disadvantaged pupils and others who are identified as needing “catch up” in their learning.
  • Support children with social and emotional needs by providing nurturing spaces and small group interventions. Support families by providing technology to use at home.

Impact

We will monitor and evaluate the impact of our use of the Catch-up premium at regular points throughout the year as part of our monitoring schedule. This will be reported to Governors through our Curriculum Group.
