Our History curriculum aims to inspire children’s curiosity to know more about the past and give them a better understanding of different periods of history in Britain and the wider world. History helps pupils to understand the complexity of people’s lives, the process of change, the diversity of societies and relationships between different groups, as well as their own identity and the challenges of their time. It is designed to enable children to develop their knowledge of the people and events that have shaped the past, and therefore give them a better understanding of the present. Through classwork, guest speakers and educational visits, children are given the opportunity to become historians, using their ‘detective’ skills to ask perceptive questions, think critically, weigh evidence, sift arguments, and develop perspective and judgement.
