Healthy Eating

At St. Ebbe’s, we teach and promote healthy eating both through our curriculum (Design Technology, Science and RSHE) as well as through our expectations around packed lunches and snacks.

Packed Lunch

Children are encouraged to bring a healthy packed lunch in a named lunch box or bag. We do not allow children to eat sweets, chocolate bars or drink fizzy drinks as part of their lunch.

According to NHS choices a balanced lunchbox should contain:

  • Starchy foods like bread, rice, potatoes or pasta
  • Protein foods like meat, fish, eggs or beans
  • A dairy item, like cheese or yogurt
  • Vegetables or salad and a portion of fruit

Morning Snack

If your child is in Year R, 1 or 2, they will be provided with free fruit each day for their morning snack, so do not need to bring a snack to school.

If your child is in Year 3, 4, 5, or 6 we ask that they bring a healthy snack (e.g. fruit, cereal bar or cheese) for their morning break. Please do not send crisps, chocolate bars or sweets. 

Water/Squash

Please send your child in with a named water bottle, which they should bring home to be washed each day. They may drink water or diluted squash. Please do not send fizzy drinks or fruit juice as these contain high amounts of sugar.
